Mental Health Act

The Mental Health Complaints Commissioner was established under Victoria’s Mental Health Act 2014 (the Act), which was introduced on 1 July 2014. The Act places people at the centre of decisions about assessment and treatment and the way that mental health services are provided, and recognises the role of carers and families.

Victorian government links

The Department of Health and Human Services is responsible for mental health policies, program activities, performance and services. The Mental Health Branch and the Office of the Chief Psychiatrist are located within the Department.
